the abundance of pharisees?
You might be a Pharisee if:
You have proven yourself worthy and righteous
You might know Christ if:
You know yourself to be unworthy, but you have faith in God’s promise of grace and mercy and forgiveness.
Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
John 3:16-21 ESV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. You believe you wouldn’t have denied Christ or been a party to the murders of Him or the prophets and martyrs
You might know Christ if:

You know that you deserve the punishment that Christ endured on the cross, and that it is your rebellion and sin that was paid in full by His blood

You want your life to look clean and orderly to everyone on the outside
You might know Christ if:

You want to get your heart right, even if you are going to get yourself dirty and be judged by others in order to get it done.
Matthew 23:25-28 ESV

You have surrendered your whole life and everything in it to Christ.

You highly value your church and it’s practices and it’s programs
You might know Christ if:
You highly value Christ and other people.

“Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’ You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that has made the gold sacred? And you say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gift that is on the altar, he is bound by his oath.’ You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred? So whoever swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. You want to go find people and teach them to be just like you.

You want to warn people of the mistakes you have made so they might avoid them.

You might be a Pharisee if:
You want heaven to have none of those filthy, unworthy sinners in it.
You might know Christ if:
You want everyone to have a chance of salvation just like you.
Matthew 23:13 ESV

and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces and being called rabbi by others. But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers. And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Christ. The greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

You want everyone to know that you deserve hell, if it were not for the grace of God’s mercy

You might be a Pharisee if:
You require that people live up to a list of requirements to get into heaven
You might know Christ if:
You believe that Faith alone is required for salvation and that all fall short of the glory of God
Matthew 23:2-4 ESV
The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat, so do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the works they do. For they preach, but do not practice. They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger.

Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:
“Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.”
Our faith is evidenced by a repentant heart. As it is perfected, and as we actively seek God’s will and presence in our lives, as we grow in this restored and personal relationship with God, our lives on the outside will be evidence of this change on the outside. It is not reluctant obedience to a set of laws and repeated confession that God seeks (sacrifice). But God seeks a change in the heart to repentance that comes from grattitude for this free gift of grace – which results in varying degrees of eagerness and hungery pursuit of Him – as our faith grows and matures. Both should produce the end result of outward, visible change and reverence to God’s guidance, and self control to not be controlled by sin in our own lives. But one is the change on the inside, cleaning the cup on the inside, doing it willingly and gratefully, and seeing His works and His change come alive in us, while the other is relying on our own works and only washing the outside of the cup. And He expects us to extend the same forgiveness to others that we have received (mercy).
Matthew 9:10-13 ESV

And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
