Love our Enemies

Luke 6:35-36 NLT
“Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked. You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.

PERSONAL COMMENTARY
———————————————

Yes, God is compassionate and merciful and forgiving and patient with His children.

Yes, if we have His Holy Spirit in us guiding us, we will also be compassionate.

Yes, He is kind to both the kind and the unkind. Yes, He is kind to both the ungrateful and the wicked.

And yes, we are supposed to be compassionate and kind to all.

Luke 6:32-34 NLT
“If you love only those who love you, why should you get credit for that? Even sinners love those who love them! And if you do good only to those who do good to you, why should you get credit? Even sinners do that much! And if you lend money only to those who can repay you, why should you get credit? Even sinners will lend to other sinners for a full return.

So the question becomes, are we His children? Are we showing compassion and love towards others in our lives – regardless of what they will or won’t do for us in return? Or are we only kind and loving towards those who are kind and loving towards us?

The book tells us that they will know us by how we love one another.
