The proud insist on “finishing strong”, but only the humble will “endure to the end”

I left the starting gates sprinting, 

thinking that I was going to finish strong. 

Now I see that this is a marathon, 

and that only by the grace of God, 

and by the power of Christ who lives in me, 

am I assured that I will endure to the end. 
Not by evidences of past victories or defeats – 

but only by that true, saving faith 

that has put all trust in God 

and that has turned me away from my sin 

to fall deeply into the arms 

of a righteous, holy, and perfect God 

whose very presence would destroy me 

if it weren’t for the Blood of the Lamb.
